Kawasaki Microelectronics Licenses SafeNet's SafeXcel IP Security Engines for Its ASIC IP Portfolio
SafeNet Technology Enables K-Micro Customers to Design ASICs for
Secure Networking and Office Automation Products
BALTIMORE & SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dec. 8, 2004—
K-Micro (Kawasaki Microelectronics), a leader in advanced yet
affordable ASICs, and SafeNet, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFNT), setting the
standard for information security, today announced that K-Micro has
licensed SafeNet's SafeXcel IP Security Engines technology to add to
its ASIC intellectual property (IP) portfolio to integrate powerful
and cost-effective security into ASICs for applications such as office
automation and secure networking products.
"Our customers need a powerful yet cost-effective cryptographic
hardware acceleration solution to protect network communications via
standard security protocols and to encrypt sensitive data stored in
network printers," said Sunil Baliga, vice president of marketing and
business development at K-Micro. "SafeNet's technology is
silicon-proven; they are a profitable, financially sound company with
an international presence. Thus, partnering with a trusted vendor such
as SafeNet will help K-Micro quickly grow in markets that need
security technology, including fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) and
network printers."
The SafeXcel IP product portfolio comprises both integrated as
well as stand-alone security engines, including high-performance
encryption, high-performance hash, public key accelerators, a
highly-integrated packet engine, a true random number generator, and a
content inspection engine. Designers have the option to use a fully
integrated security system or select individual engines to suit their
specific design needs, thereby providing maximum flexibility and
reducing cost.
"By taking advantage of SafeNet's technology, K-Micro's customers
can speed up their time-to-market and reduce their development risk
for ASICs in secure networking and secure office automation products,"
said Henk Pruim, Vice President and General Manager, SafeNet,
Networking Business Unit. "Our technology is a perfect fit for
K-Micro's growing ASIC IP portfolio because it was designed
specifically for integration into complex SoCs with special emphasis
placed on portability, ease of integration and reliable performance.
We look forward to working closely with K-Micro to help their
customers succeed."
